Plain, Chromic and Mild Chromic Gut Absorbable Sutures are absorbable
sterile surgical sutures composed of purified connective tissue (mostly
collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) intestines. They are
packaged in a solution of 89% isopropanol, 10% water and 1%
triethanolamine. Chromic gut is treated with chromic salt solution.

Indications: 

Plain, Chromic and Mild Chromic Gut Absorbable Sutures are indicated for use
in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in
ophthalmic surgery, but not for use in cardiovascular or neurological surgery.

Actions: 

When Plain, Chromic and Mild Chromic Gut Absorbable Sutures are placed in
tissue, a moderate tissue inflammation occurs characteristic of foreign body
response to a substance.

Tensile Strength:

Gradual loss of tensile strength and suture mass, as the enzymatic process
dissolves the surgical gut until it is completely absorbed.

Sterilization:

Gamma irradiation.

Absorption:

Many variable factors may affect the rate of absorption. Some of the major factors which may affect tensile strength loss and absorption rates are: 1. Type of Suture - Plain gut is expected to absorb more rapidly than chromic gut. 2. Infection  Surgical gut is absorbed faster in infected tissue than in noninfected tissue. 3. Tissue Sites - Surgical gut will absorb more rapidly in tissue where increased levels of enzymes are present, as in secretions exhibited in the stomach, cervix and vagina.

Packaging:

The sutures are supplied sterile, in pre-cut lengths and ligating reels, non-needled or affixed to various needle types using both permanent and removable needle attachment techniques. The sutures are available in box quantities of one, two and three dozen.

You can request a return up to 30 days after receiving your item. To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
